Friday morning, thunderstorms dropped heavy rain throughout central and southern Minnesota.

Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said a few of the thunderstorms may contain wind gusts of up to 60 mph as they move through the state early Friday.

An alert from the National Weather Service for multiple counties expired before 8 a.m.

Earlier, Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said remains of Hurricane Laura, now a tropical depression, could enhance rainfall over the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota Friday morning, which could lead to some flooding, particularly in areas south of a line from Marshall to Winona.

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall possible during overnight storms

Looking ahead, Barlow said the rain from storms will clean the air of humidity and temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 70s Friday through the weekend.
