Mask requirement approved in Mankato, Winona and state courts

Mankato’s city council has voted to adopt a mask ordinance, to help stop the spread of COVID-19, requiring them indoors starting Friday.

Those without masks once the ordinance takes effect could be fined $100, and businesses could be fined $200.

Last week, Rochester and Edina city officials voted to require masks in city facilities and indoor public spaces.

Minneapolis and St. Paul also have citywide mask policies.

Mark Peterson, the mayor of Winona also signed a citywide mask order Tuesday that will go into effect on Friday. The order requires all Winona residents and visitors to wear face coverings indoors in public buildings and anywhere where social distancing is difficult.

"This order will help keep our businesses open, allow our schools and universities to open this fall, and most importantly protect the health and safety of all Winona residents," Peterson said.

Along with the cities of Mankato and Winona, Minnesota State Court facilities will require face coverings starting on July 13.
