Minnesota Children’s Museum to reopen on Aug. 1

The Minnesota Children’s Museum is planning to reopen on Aug. 1 after a three-month closure due to COVID-19.

The museum feels strongly about providing playful learning opportunities as Minnesota emerges from the pandemic, according to a message from the museum.

“The health and safety of our visitors is our top priority,” said Dianne Krizan, president of Minnesota Children’s Museum. “We’ve been busy over the past few weeks closely reviewing guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health, working to get the museum ready and putting safety measures into place. We can’t wait to welcome our member and visitors back to the museum.”

The general overview of what guests can expect are:

The museum will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • All visitors, including museum members, must reserve tickets in advance for a specific day and time
  • Ticket reservations will begin in mid-July
  • All visitors age 5 and older must wear masks (please bring your own)
  • Signs and other cues will encourage visitors to practice social distancing

Other additional safety precautions are:

  • Enhanced procedures for cleaning and sanitizing all museum spaces
  • Plexiglass barriers in the box office and security desk area
  • Additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum
  • Removed soft props and costumes
  • Removed or modified some experiences, including face painting and air play
  • Upgraded air filters and created new protocol for monitoring air flow
  • Created process for staff wellness checks to be performed daily
