Moorhead Police: 6-year-old boy killed after kids find gun

A 6-year-old boy died Sunday night after being shot in Moorhead.

Moorhead Police said several unsupervised children found a handgun inside an apartment in the 400 block of Sunrise Circle. At some point, the 6-year-old was shot.

Officers responded at about 7:45 p.m. and found the boy already dead inside the apartment. The gun was recovered at the scene.

Police said the immediate family was notified and the other kids that were present at the time are safe.

An investigation is underway.

No suspects are being sought and nobody has been taken into custody at this time.
