Boys hockey: Class A #1 Gentry Academy rallies to beat St Paul Johnson in Sec 4A Semi

St Paul Johnson led 2-1 late in the first period but Class A #1-ranked Gentry Academy rallied to score the next nine goals on the way to winning their Section 4A boys hockey semifinal 10-3.

Two goals from Blayde Pogreba had the Governors up 2-1 with three minutes remaining in the opening period at the TCO Center in Vadnais Heights, but Barrett Hall scored twice before the horn to send the Stars to the first intermission with a 3-2 lead.
Gentry was flying right from the drop of the puck in the second. Reese Shaw scored 35 seconds into the period, and Nick Sajevic followed up ten seconds later for a 5-2 Stars lead.
Shaw scored once more and both Connor Brown and Kaden Milles scored twice to complete the flurry of nine straight goals.
Pogreba scored again for the Governors late in the third to complete his hat trick.
Thirteen Stars players recorded points in the game, led by Milles’ two goals and two assists for four points.
Johnson’s goalies split time and faced 58 shots. Tobin Florhaug made 29 saves, Damian VanDanacker had 19.
Gentry’s Alex Timmons made 5 saves to earn the win as his Stars outshot the Governors 58-8.
St Paul Johnson finishes their season 8-10.
Gentry remains perfect this season at 15-0. They advance to Thursday’s Section 4A Championship where they will face defending Class A State Champion Mahtomedi with a bid to this year’s Tourney on the line.
