Person of interest in fatal Owatonna stabbing arrested

UPDATE:

A person of interest in a fatal stabbing in Owatonna has been taken into custody.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety confirmed Tuesday that 28-year-old Hassan Nur Hassan was arrested by Minneapolis police Monday night and booked into Hennepin County Jail.

DPS said Hassan will be transferred to Steele County Jail to await charges in the death of 32-year-old Mohamed Aweis Mohamed.


Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating a person of interest in a fatal stabbing that occurred in Owatonna.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the person of interest as 28-year-old Hassan Nur Hassan. He is described as 5-feet-11-inches, weighing 140 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a goatee.

It is believed Hassan is driving a 2000 Honda Accord with the Minnesota license plate EGG-087.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Owatonna Police Department at 507-444-3800.

Authorities also identified the victim in the incident as 32-year-old Mohamed Aweis Mohamed.

Authorities are investigating a stabbing death at a park in Owatonna.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it, along with the Owatonna Police Department, is investigating a stabbing that occurred at about 5:17 p.m. Sunday at Dartts Park.

After receiving a report of a stabbing, officers arrived and found a man unconscious on the ground with what appeared to be stab wounds. The BCA said officers and paramedics provided medical aid but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

BCA crime scene personnel recovered two knives from the scene.

An investigation is active.

The victim’s identity will be released at a later time.
