Minnesota National Guard soldiers test positive for COVID-19 during training rotation

A spokesperson for the Minnesota National Guard said a "handful" of soldiers have tested positive for COVID-19 during a training rotation.

The spokesperson said the training rotation is at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin in California.

"We’re learning to operate in a new environment and to mitigate health risks while continuing to answer our state and nation’s call," said Col. Tim Kemp, Commander 1/34th Armored Brigade Combat Team. "We remain committed to the safety and wellbeing of our Minnesota National Guard Soldiers, as we take part in this important training."

The National Guard spokesperson said soldiers undergo processes to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including testing and isolation in their home state prior to departure, as well as daily symptom and temperature checks.
