Police identify man killed in shooting in Phillips neighborhood

Police have identified the man killed after shooting in the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis as 48-year-old Abdirashid Jama Omar.

According to Minneapolis Police Department officials, officers were called to the 1000 block of East 22nd Street on the report of a shooting.

When police arrived, they found Omar without a pulse. First responders performed CPR and Omar and were able to recover a pulse, however, he later died at the hospital.

An investigation found that Omar was approaching his car when he saw two people attempting to break into his vehicle. Omar chased the suspects on foot and was shot sometime during the chase.
