Families receive essential supplies during uncertain times

Dozens of families in St. Paul were able to get some help Saturday from a free essential supply drive.

From baby lotion, wipes and formula, to non-perishable food and soap, the University of Minnesota Extension 4-H and the Sanneh Foundation connected to make this happen at the Sunray Shopping Center.

It was the first of what they hope are many — the drive was organized because many families are not only struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic but also from the aftermath of the rioting following the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

Families are also facing the uncertainty of whether there will be in-person school this fall. That’s why the two groups hope to have more essential supply drives — they know the need will be there.

“When basic human needs aren’t met, people can’t meet their fullest potential,” Jenny Cable with 4-H said. “Especially young people, so that’s really what we’re trying to do here is just meet basic needs for people.”

If you weren’t able to help, 4-H says it will be accepting donations for future drives.
