Minneapolis Public Schools board to discuss reopening framework

Tuesday, families and students are expected to get a better look at the Minneapolis Public Schools’ plans for the fall.

Guidance is still needed from Gov. Tim Walz, which he says is expected Thursday, but Minneapolis plans so far include different options.

Officials have identified both ends of the education spectrum, with one option being at-home learning and the other being in-person learning. However, it’s the range of options in the middle that officials say is tricky to navigate.

For now, the Minneapolis Public Schools school board has created a few phases. The plan is to re-open with distance learning with the hope to slowly get students back into their classrooms, with a hybrid of distance learning and in-person class as it becomes safer.

Tuesday’s board meeting would likely take into account recent surveys conducted. One survey shows parents would prefer a hybrid of at-home and in-person learning while another shows the majority of educators do not feel comfortable going back to school yet.
