Minneapolis beaches open, operations modified due to COVID-19

Minneapolis beaches are open but some operations are modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) on Friday released an updated plan for the summer. In April, MPRB had said all pools and beaches would be closed for the entire summer due to COVID-19.

Friday, MPRB said:

  • Beaches in Minneapolis will be open during regular park hours, which is 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily,
  • No lifeguard services will be provided,
  • Swimming buoys are being installed by June 13 (at Cedar Lake East Beach, Bde Maka Ska Thomas Beach, Lake Harriet Southeast Beach (Main Beach), Lake Nokomis Main Beach and Wirth Lake Beach),
  • Drinking fountains will remain closed, visitors are urged to bring water bottles,
  • Portable toilets will be available at several locations,
  • Maintenance and water quality monitoring will continue at all beaches.
