Walz extends COVID-19 peacetime emergency
Friday, Gov. Tim Walz announced the extension of his COVID-19 peacetime emergency through mid-July.
A news release from the governor’s office said ending the peacetime emergency could jeopardize over $50 million each month in federal funding.
Under the emergency, Minnesotans are protected against evictions and wage garnishments. The order also allows the state to continue to procure PPE and other equipment.
"The peacetime emergency opens our toolbox, allowing us to take swift action as necessary to protect the health and well-being of our communities, businesses, and families. This pandemic is not over. We must continue to work together to put public health first," Walz said in a statement Friday.
