6 injured in overnight Minneapolis shooting

The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a shooting that left six people injured early Sunday morning. 

According to police, just before 2 a.m., officers were notified about a ShotSpotter activation on the 200 block of West Broadway. 

Once officers arrived at the scene, they were advised that the victims, both male and female, had all been taken to the hospital by private transportation. Officers then notified both North Memorial Medical Center and Hennepin County Medical Center to be aware that there may be shooting victims arriving in private vehicles. 

The preliminary investigation found that a fight broke out inside of  the 200 Club. Sunday afternoon, a security guard said the club uses metal detectors and pepper spray to keep troublemakers out and said emotions are running high right now, "people are still made about what's going on in life, it might look still on the surface, but people are in pain."  Police confirmed the fight then spilled over overside and shots were fired. Suspects fled before officers arrived. Several club goer's recorded the fist fight and the aftermath out in the street on their cell phones. 

While officers were investigating the scene, collecting shell casings and surveillance footage, others responded to both hospitals to check for potential victims. 

According to officers, Hennepin County Medical Center located three victims and North Memorial Medical Center found two victims.

An additional victim was found a few blocks away from the shooting scene and was transported to Hennepin Medical Center by ambulance.

The incident came as even more shootings were reported in the area, around the same time.  City records show since June 1st, at least 38 people have been hurt or killed by gunfire in Minneapolis.  KG Wilson is a community activist who called this a harsh reality check, "we live in the times where everything is done by a gun, live by the gun, die by the gun."
