MDH reports 419 new COVID-19 cases, 12 new deaths, nearly 20,000 tests completed

Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 419 new cases that have tested positive for COVID-19, pushing the state’s total to 31,296 cases.

MDH also reported 12 additional deaths Wednesday, moving the state’s total to 1,325. Of the entire total, 1,051 have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, MDH reported.

The department stated, as of Wednesday, a total of 448,587 tests have been completed. That includes 19,573 tests completed statewide on Tuesday — the first time the state has come close to reaching Gov. Tim Walz’s goal of 20,000 tests a day.

According to MDH, 3,689 total cases have required hospitalization. Of that total, 351 remained in the hospital Wednesday with 181 in intensive care.

MDH states 27,404 patients no longer need to be isolated. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients who no longer need isolation represents individuals with confirmed COVID-19 who no longer need to self-isolate. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients no longer needing isolation "does not include those who have died; the cumulative number was adjusted to reflect that change."

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 8.2 million people worldwide and killed more than 444,563.

More than 3.9 million people worldwide have recovered as of Wednesday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
