Minneapolis Mayor Frey, police chief Arradondo address recent shootings in city

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo addressed the recent shootings that have happened in the city on Monday.

An Uptown shooting resulted in one man dying and 11 others injured this past weekend, while two more shootings happened in Minneapolis on Monday.

Frey opened up the presser, stating the recent violence is "not acceptable in any form."

He addressed how crucial it is for government and community to come together to stop this violence from progressing any further. 

"Residents, businesses, all of those who choose to be in Minneapolis deserve to feel safe," Frey said. 

Arradondo noted that the shootings are "group-involved." The violence has also not been confined to one city or one part of a city, as investigations are ongoing. 

"We have seen recently more witnesses coming forward with information," Arradondo said. He added he has seen community coming together to help in stressful times. 

The police chief noted that recent violence involves many instances where the victims are members of the African-American community. 

"I want to say this very clearly— their lives are not disposable. The number of gunshot wound victims specifically to our African-American community in young men… their lives are not disposable," Arradondo said. "We have to do everything we can to come together."
