Hennepin County Sheriff's Office to require appointments for permit to carry applications

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said it will now require appointments for permit to carry applications amid the COVID-19 pandemic, starting July 1.

Since the pandemic began, the sheriff's office said it has maintained full operations for issuing permits, and they've adjusted the office's layout and added technology to protect staff and the public.

However, as it continues to adjust and also reduce wait times, it is going to an appointment system for receiving permits effective July 1.

People walking in without an appointment won't be able to apply for a permit.

To schedule an appointment, you can call 612-348-8008. At the appointment time, permit seekers will need their completed application, the application fee and proper identification. Appointments are expected to last about 10 minutes. Per city ordinance, all people will be required to wear face masks.
