2nd Faribault inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 dies

The Minnesota Department of Corrections says a second inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault who tested positive for COVID-19 died at a local hospital Saturday morning.

According to a news release, the inmate, identified as 71-year-old Leroy Wallace Bergstrom, tested positive for the virus on June 10 and had been hospitalized in critical condition since June 16.

The exact cause of Bergstrom’s death is pending an autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.

Another COVID-19-positive inmate at the Faribault prison died on Tuesday. Adrian Raymaar Keys, 43, tested positive on June 4 and was hospitalized on Monday.

According to the DOC’s website, 206 inmates at the Faribault prison have tested positive for the coronavirus. So far 339 inmates and 61 employees have tested positive across Minnesota prisons. Another 38 inmates and 10 staff members were presumed to be positive for COVID-19.

“On behalf of the Department of Corrections and the State of Minnesota, I extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Bergstrom’s family, loved ones, and friends,” DOC Commissioner Paul Schnell said.
