Charges: Man knocked his 7-month-old child's mother unconscious, took child; arrest warrant issued

Charges have been filed against a man after he allegedly knocked his 7-month-old child's mother unconscious and then took the child from her St. Paul home last week.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for 21-year-old Jamal Lamarr Jones, who's charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and stalking with intent to injure, a gross misdemeanor.

According to a criminal complaint, St. Paul police officers were called to a home on Thomas Avenue W. near Dale Street at about 8:54 p.m. on June 24. There, officers spoke to a woman who said she'd been knocked unconscious by her child's father.

The complaint states the woman was crying hysterically and the inside of the apartment was in disarray. The woman told police that Jones, her 7-month-old child's father, was at her home and was upset because she didn't want him to leave with the child that night. Jones became so angry that he began punching her all over her body with closed fists, then banged her head off the living room floor for about three minutes until she lost consciousness.

When the woman regained consciousness, she said Jones and her child were gone. The complaint states the woman didn't know how long she'd been unconscious. Police also noted marks and bruising on the woman's neck and arms, consistent with an assault.

On June 25, authorities asked for the public's help in locating the child. Just before 8 p.m. that day, police confirmed the child was safely located after an unknown adult dropped her off at North Memorial Urgent Care in Minnetonka.

St. Paul police say missing 7-month-old reunited with mother

The complaint states the woman said she's very afraid of Jones and he "intimidates, threatens or assaults her all the time and the abuse is getting worse." It notes that this is Jones' third domestic assault incident against the victim in just over a month, with charges also filed from incidents on May 18 and June 12.

Jones was not in custody as of Monday morning, and due to "serious concerns" about the safety of the victim and her child, a warrant for his arrest has been issued, the complaint states.
