A 70-year-old Wisconsin man died Monday morning after floodwaters submerged his vehicle.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the area of U.S. Highway 63 and County Highway E in Baldwin Township at about 5:15 a.m. on a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan was being driven west by Gary J. Parent, of Emerald, Wis., when the van drove into water that was flooding the roadway. Parent then lost control of the vehicle, which entered the north ditch and was inundated with water, eventually becoming completely submerged, the sheriff’s office said.
