VIDEO: Minnesota National Guard, Air Force Reserve conduct 2nd round of flyovers to honor medical workers

The Minnesota National Guard and Air Force Reserve conducted another series of flyovers Wednesday to honor front-line workers against the COVID-19 crisis.

Four separate groups of aircraft took to the sky in routes above medical facilities in northwestern, northern and southern Minnesota, as well as northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Wednesday's flyovers were an encore to last week's salute to health care professionals.

“Last week’s flyovers were an opportunity for us to show our appreciation for those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 fight,” said Maj. Gen. Jon Jensen, the adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard. “We chose several hospitals as flyover points, but it is truly only a symbolic gesture, as the intent isn’t to honor only those facilities, but all the essential workers statewide."

Wednesday's mission included combinations of F-16 Fighting Falcon and C-130 Hercules aircraft, which will fly out of Duluth and St. Paul.

The flyovers are part of previously scheduled training missions, according to the National Guard.
