Waseca officer undergoes another surgery, still progressing

The Waseca police officer who was shot in the head while on duty earlier this month continues to progress in his recovery and had reconstruction surgery Monday afternoon.
According to an update posted on a CaringBridge page Monday afternoon, Arik Matson had a busy day.
The post said Matson's CT came back great, and reconstruction surgery was set for Monday afternoon. The update also said speech therapy put a valve on his trach, allowing him to speak for about 10 minutes and "we got a noise or two out of him after Megan bribed him with a kiss so that was a good start to the day!"
Matson also underwent more physical therapy in the morning and stretched his legs. "He was able to throw a ball to his brother Jared twice!" the post added.

The family is now waiting to see how the reconstruction surgery goes as Matson continues his recovery.
While responding to a report of a suspicious person on Jan. 6, Matson was shot in the head. Robert Janovsky is accused of shooting Matson and has been charged with first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer.
