2 safely escape after vehicle falls through ice on Big Swan Lake
Monday evening, two people were able to safely escape after the vehicle they were in fell through the ice on Big Swan Lake in Kingston Township.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a vehicle through the ice at about 5:23 p.m.
Authorities learned an 82-year-old Eagan resident and a 76-year-old Eden Prairie resident were driving onto the lake to fish when their truck broke through. Fortunately, they were able to escape before the truck submerged and made it back to the landing.
The sheriff’s office said "thin ice" signs have been posted at the access due to rapidly deteriorating conditions and vehicle travel isn’t advised.
