A second Amtrak train could be running between the Twin Cities and Chicago.
The Great River Rail Commission is proposing the second daily round trip passenger train between the two cities.
A virtual town forum on the project will be held in Red Wing Thursday evening.
City leaders believe the train could bring new tourists to town.
"I think there’s optimism around it," Paige Anderson with Red Wing Visitors & Convention Bureau said. "We hope that the second train brings in more visitors for the economy. It really helps our small businesses."
A decision on the $53 million project could happen this spring.
If approved, a second train could be rolling down the tracks in the next two to three years.
