MDH reports 729 new COVID-19 cases, 17 new deaths

Saturday, state health officials reported 729 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Minnesota and 17 more deaths, pushing the state’s totals to 14,969 cases and 700 deaths.

Of the positive cases, 1,765 are health care workers.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, state labs have completed 17,507 tests, and private labs have completed 125,774 tests.

Of the cases, 2,039 total patients have been hospitalized. On Saturday, 493 patients were in the hospital and 225 were in intensive care.

So far, 8,820 patients are recovering, according to the MDH. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients who no longer need isolation represents individuals with confirmed COVID-19 who no longer need to self-isolate, including those who have died.

As of Saturday, according to case data from Johns Hopkins University, total COVID-19 cases in the world have amassed to 4.5 million.

Of the total cases, 1.4 million are in the United States. The data shows 308,843 people have died from the virus in the world and 87,595 have died in the United States.

Globally 1.6 million are recovering from COVID-19.
