Monday, Cub grocery stores across the state are now returning to their normal operating hours, effective immediately.
According to a news release, 63 store locations will now operate 24 hours a day to better serve customers and aid social distancing efforts by creating additional hours to shop. However, the company is asking the community to join them in reserving the 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. hour of each day to allow elderly and other high-risk populations time to shop and provide for their well-being.
“Each and every Cub associate has embraced their role as a critical provider of essential food and grocery items and it’s shown through their dedication to each other, our customers, and to the communities we serve,” said Mike Stigers, CEO of Cub. “Returning the majority of our stores to 24-hour operations is the next step in providing essential support for all Minnesotans in this time of need.”
In mid-March, Cub made the decision to maintain 24-hour operations at 13 stores in the greater Twin Cities metro area as well as expanded service hours at select pharmacy locations. Since that time, Cub has implemented over 100 new rules and protocol changes to protect store associates and customers including extra cleaning efforts throughout stores, performing temperature checks on store associates, installing Plexiglas dividers, providing and requiring the use of face coverings for all associates while at work, and recommending all customers wear a face covering while shopping in the store.
In addition to the changes, Cub instituted an increased $2 per hour wage bonus for all hours worked to show its appreciation for the efforts displayed by associates and their dedication to the company. The temporary wage increase, in addition to increasing overtime rates to double the new rate per hour, rather than time and one-half rate, has been extended through June 6.
