MDH reports 665 new COVID-19 cases, 17 new deaths

Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 665 new positive COVID-19 cases, moving the state total to 17,029 cases.
MDH also reported 17 new deaths, pushing the state’s total to 748 total deaths. Of that overall total, 608 have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, according to MDH.
As of Tuesday, the state has completed 18,588 tests and private labs have completed 143,247 tests, MDH reported. Gov. Tim Walz had stated his goal was to test 5,000 people a day.
According to MDH, 2,221 total cases have required hospitalization. Of that total, 545 remained in the hospital Tuesday with 229 in Intensive Care Units.
The department reports 11,540 patients no longer need to be isolated. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients who no longer need isolation represents individuals with confirmed COVID-19 who no longer need to self-isolate but no longer includes those who have died.
According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected about 4.8 million people worldwide and killed nearly 320,000.
More than 1.8 million people worldwide are recovering as of Tuesday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
