Multiple cities, counties around the metro issue curfews

Friday, the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul issued citywide curfews.

The move to put curfews in place comes after violent protests erupted throughout the metro over the death of George Floyd.

Gov. Tim Walz also signed an executive order implementing a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. During the curfew, nobody is allowed to travel on Minneapolis or St. Paul streets or public places, except for first responders, members of the media, people going back and forth to work, individuals seeking emergency care or fleeing danger, and people experiencing homelessness.

Minneapolis

The curfew will extend through the weekend and lasts from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m., according to a proclamation issued through Mayor Jacob Frey’s office.

During the curfew travel on public streets and gathering in public places is prohibited.

Law enforcement, fire and medical personnel are exempt from the curfew. Journalists and people returning home from work shifts are exempt from the curfew, as are people who are experiencing homelessness or are fleeing a dangerous situation.

St. Paul

The curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. Friday and will be lifted at 6 a.m. Sunday.

"It’s time to rebuild our community and that starts with safety in our streets," said Walz. "Thousands of Minnesotans have expressed their grief and frustration in a peaceful manner. But the unlawful and dangerous actions of others, under the cover of darkness, has caused irreversible pain and damage to our community. This behavior has compromised the safety of bystanders, businesses, lawful demonstrators, and first responders. Now, we come together to restore the peace."

"Minnesota, we’re hurting, and we need to begin the healing process," said Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan. "We need to bring peace to our streets and calm to our neighborhoods. This is an important step to ensure safety, so we can begin to rebuild and seek justice for George Floyd."

Anoka County

Anoka County declared a state of emergency and enacted curfews from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bloomington

Bloomington has declared a local emergency and curfew effective overnight Friday and Saturday. The curfew will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and last until 6 a.m. Saturday. The curfew will begin again Saturday night at 8 p.m. and last until 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Brooklyn Center

Brooklyn Center has declared an emergency proclamation and set a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Brooklyn Park

A temporary curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. has been implemented for Brooklyn Park Friday, Saturday. Sunday and Monday.

Champlin

Champlin has put a curfew in effect from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove has issued a curfew from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Crystal

The city of Crystal has implemented a curfew from 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

Dakota County

Marking the first county to do so, Dakota County issued a curfew that will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday night. The curfew is in effect until 6 a.m. each morning.

Eden Prairie

A temporary curfew has been implement in Eden Prairie from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Edina

A temporary curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. has been implemented in Edina for Friday and Saturday nights into Sunday morning.

Excelsior

A temporary curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. has been implemented in Excelsior, as well as neighboring cities Greenwood, Tonka Bay and Shorewood, for Saturday and Sunday night.

Lauderdale

Lauderdale has issued a curfew order beginning Friday at 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. each day through Monday.

Maple Grove

Maple Grove has implemented a curfew from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Maplewood

The City of Maplewood declared a curfew starting 8 p.m. on Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday. It will also resume for the same period on Sunday into Monday.

Minnetonka

Minnetonka has declared a temporary curfew will go into effect at 8 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

North St. Paul

North St. Paul has established a citywide curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Osseo

Osseo declared a local emergency and implemented a curfew for Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Richfield

Richfield declared a civil emergency and implemented curfews from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Robbinsdale

The city of Robbinsdale has implemented a curfew from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. until further notice.

Roseville

Roseville also implemented a curfew beginning Friday, according to the city’s mayor.

St. Anthony

St. Anthony has issued a curfew order beginning Friday at 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. each day through Monday.

St. Louis Park

St. Louis Park declared a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Shoreview

The City of Shoreview has declared a state of emergency and implemented a city-wide curfew. The curfew begins Saturday at 8 p.m.

Wayzata

Wayzata has declared a curfew from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Woodbury

The mayor has declared a state of emergency in Woodbury, and will be implementing a curfew beginning at 8 p.m.Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday, and 8 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday.
