A North Dakota veteran recently got the surprise of a lifetime during an episode of Antiques Roadshow.

The Air Force veteran said he bought a Rolex watch in Thailand in 1974 for about $345, a full month's salary at the time.

The special Oyster marking on the watch's face makes it extremely rare, and the watch has never even been worn.

Much to the man's surprise, the host said the watch is worth between $500,000 and $700,000.

The model is popular among collectors because actor Paul Newman wore a similar model in the 1969 film "Winning."
