Voters turn out in Hudson, Wis. in masks and gloves

Long lines, masks, gloves and social distancing were features of Wisconsin’s state primary election Tuesday.

"This is the most unique election we’ve had to deal with," Hudson City Administrator Aaron Reeves said.

Wisconsin is the only state with an election scheduled in April that is proceeding as planned, despite last-minute efforts by the governor to postpone it.

Thousands of poll workers said they wouldn’t work, forcing cities across the state to reduce the number of polling sites and members of the Wisconsin National Guard to step in as election workers.

At a polling place in Hudson, they were only allowing about two voters in at a time and the wait was about an hour. Inside, there were handwashing stations and barriers separating voters and poll workers.

"I have faith the people inside are running this properly and keeping everything clean," said voter Ian Zastrow.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Elections results won’t be announced until Monday in order to count all the absentee ballots.
