Split Rock Lighthouse lights beacon in solidarity during fight against COVID-19

To show solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic, Split Rock Lighthouse lit its beacon Friday night over Lake Superior.

"This is a way of saying to all Minnesotans, and to all people worldwide, that together we will weather this storm," said Kent Whitworth, director and CEO of Minnesota Historical Society.

A livestream of the lighthouse was shown from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Facebook.

The beacon of the 1910 lighthouse is only lit a few times each year, reserved for special occasions.
