Suspect who fled law enforcement, hit parked car and killed man was wanted for parole violation

1 dead after fleeing driver crashed into parked car

A driver who was fleeing law enforcement crashed into a parked car late Sunday night, killing the 36-year-old occupant, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

A state trooper stopped a vehicle near I-94 and Marion Street in St. Paul around 11:15 p.m. for speeding. After coming to a brief stop, the driver sped off.

After initially following the driver, law enforcement soon after called off the pursuit and a State Patrol helicopter was used to track the vehicle, authorities said.

The suspect crashed into a parked car in the parking lot of Gustavus Adolphus Church, killing the person inside.

That person was later identified as Day Por Tho, of St. Paul.

Debris was seen covering the road near the intersection of Arcade St. and Larpenteur Avenue East around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The suspect, 28-year-old Lorenzo Washington, of Minneapolis, tried to run from the scene, but was tased and arrested, according to authorities.

Washington was wanted in Minnesota for a parole violation. In 2014, he was convicted of attempted murder, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

He has since been booked into Ramsey County Jail. He is currently being held on charges of criminal vehicular homicide, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, and a Department of Corrections parole violation.
