Apartment evacuated following fire in Minneapolis
An apartment in Minneapolis was evacuated Saturday after a fire broke out in the building.
At around 12:55 p.m., fire crews responded to the third floor of a three-story senior living apartment building on the 3200 block of Fremont Avenue North for reports of smoke.
Officials spoke to a resident who said they had a stovetop fire that caught the microwave on fire. Crews found the fire on the stove was out but after investigating further, they found the fire extended into the walls behind the stove and microwave.
The Minneapolis Fire Department said they evacuated the building just before 1:30 p.m. and extinguished the remaining fire before it spread to other parts of the building.
No injuries were reported due to the fire, however a bystander outside the building tripped over a curb and hit their head, causing them to be transported to the hospital.
The Red Cross has been called to assist one resident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
