Stolen vehicle crashes into New Brighton pond, 4 arrested
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer captured footage of a crash scene at a New Brighton pond early Tuesday morning involving what police now say was a stolen vehicle.
According to New Brighton police, officers were doing “enhanced patrols” due to an increase in vehicle theft in the northern part of the city and saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of 17th Street NW and Silver Lake Road.
Although officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off and ended up in deep water after going down an embankment at the intersection of Silver Lake Road and West County Road E. That’s when officers saw four people get out of the vehicle and then hide in a wooded area.
A search for the suspects began, and they were all eventually found and arrested. All four suspects were identified as juveniles. Due to their age, police said they won’t be releasing any other information about the suspects.
Police add two guns were recovered at the scene.
No word on any potential injuries, although a 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer did see two of the suspects being treated at the scene by medics.
