53-year-old killed in St. Paul crash

The victim was identified Wednesday as Brett Anthony Peterson, of Hastings.

A 53-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash around 4:27 a.m. Monday morning in St. Paul, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

The man was driving a GMC Sierra northbound on Highway 61 near Lower Afton Road when he went off the roadway and into the center median ditch, where he hit a tree.

Northbound Highway 61 between I-494 and Lower Afton Road temporarily closed Monday while authorities investigated the crash. It has since reopened.

Officials say the man was not wearing a seat belt. His identity is expected to be released Wednesday.
