Wren Clair is forecasting heavy rain and strong storms today
Scattered rain, heavy at times, and storms stay in the forecast this afternoon into tonight. Central and southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin have a widespread shot at 1″ to 2″ of rainfall. Locally 3″ to 4″ of rainfall will be possible as well. Scattered storms could be strong to severe today and tonight mainly south of I-94, and especially across far southern Minnesota. Damaging winds, large hail, and even a few tornadoes are possible across southern Minnesota today, mainly late afternoon and evening.
Dakota, Pierce, Rice, Goodhue and Wabasha counties are under a Flood Watch now until Tuesday morning. Counties within the watch have the highest probability of upwards of 2″ of rain. I do think additional counties could be added to the watch at some point with any track changes.
Areas not under the Flood Watch, especially urban areas, could still have localized flooding today. The heavy rain and storm chances today will be primarily this afternoon and evening, tapering off near midnight. We keep the slight chance for an early Tuesday morning spotty shower across southeastern Minnesota.
Tuesday we end up with mostly sunny skies and temperatures are comfortably in the mid-70s through the rest of this week.
Have a wonderful day and allow some extra time on the roadways today!
Wren
