1 injured, 1 dead in crash with St. Paul fire truck
A person is dead and another is injured after a crash between a vehicle and a St. Paul Fire truck on Saturday night.
Officers from St. Paul were called to the intersection of 7th Street East and Cedar Street around 7 p.m. on a report of a crash involving a Chevrolet Malibu and a fire truck.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, 76-year-old Diane Susan Kyte, of Northfield, was seriously injured in the crash, and later died.
A man in the same vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, a spokesperson for Kyte’s family described her as a great person.
One of the vehicles struck a building during the crash, although officials did not specify which vehicle. The building was minorly damaged as a result.
No one in the fire truck was injured in the crash.
St. Paul Fire Chief Butch Inks and Mayor Melvin Carter expressed their sympathies to Kyte’s family on Monday.
“Sakeena and I are deeply saddened by Mrs. Kyte’s passing,” said Mayor Carter. “We extend our condolences to her loved ones in mourning today, and are keeping Mr. Kyte in our prayers as he recovers.”
“The tragic death of a loved one is something no family should ever have to experience,” Chief Inks said. “I hold Mrs. Kyte in my prayers and pray for peace and healing for the entire Kyte family.”
Due to the involvement of a city vehicle, the Minnesota State Patrol was called in to assist with the investigation.
