Burglary suspect arrested following high-speed pursuit in Ramsey County
A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection to multiple burglaries and a high-speed pursuit involving law enforcement.
According to a press release from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of two occupied residential burglaries in North Oaks and White Bear Township Monday.
The first burglary occurred in North Oaks at around 11:30 a.m., and police said the second burglary occurred in White Bear Township just after noon Monday. Homeowners were able to give a vehicle description, and the second homeowner was able to give police a license plate number.
Shortly after receiving the reports, deputies located the suspect's vehicle traveling on Highway 96. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the suspect did not stop and fled. The pursuit continued through Shoreview, Arden Hills and New Brighton. The suspect hit another vehicle at the intersection of County Road E and Silver Lake Road in New Brighton, which ended the pursuit. The driver of the vehicle hit by the suspect sustained minor injuries in the crash, according to authorities.
The suspect was identified as Douglas Wesley Phaneuf. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with unknown injuries.
During the pursuit, two sheriff's office squad cars were disabled, and a deputy was treated for minor injuries.
The case remains under investigation and no additional information is currently available.
