Crews working to clean up train derailment near Big Lake
A train derailed near Big Lake Saturday morning, impacting main railroad lines in the area.
According to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office a train carrying “consumer goods” derailed near Big Lake around 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
The derailment impacted 15 railcars as well as BNSF’s main rail lines.
The sheriff’s office said no one has been injured as a result of the derailment and that there is no threat to the public at this time.
Some roadways near Big Lake have been impacted as a result.
At this time, 172nd Street Northwest is blocked between 197th Avenue and County Road 14.
The BNSF states that they expect things to be cleared up late Saturday into the overnight hours Sunday. They stated that crews will work through the night if needed.
In addition to roads being closed, Twins fans hoping to use the Northstar service to travel to Saturday night’s Twins game will have to find a new way to the stadium.
Metro Transit said that due the derailment, they would be unable to provide Northstar service for fans.
They also said no replacement bus service will be provided. An update on the status of Northstar’s service to Sunday’s Twins game will be given no later than 8 a.m. Sunday.
