Sources told KSTP’s Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson and Skor North’s Declan Goff early Wednesday afternoon Lee was headed to Target Field. The Twins confirmed the move when the lineup was announced for the game against Detroit. Lee will bat eighth and start at third base in his debut.
Lee’s call-up comes after infielder Royce Lewis (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Twins president of baseball operations Derek falvey said Lewis will be re-evaluated after the All-Star Break. He’s expected to miss a few weeks.
To make room for Lee on the 40-man roster, the Twins moved Brock Stewart to the 60-day IL.
Stewart has already fulfilled much of the term and should be able to return once he’s fully back from his shoulder ailment. He’s already thrown some bullpen sessions this week in St. Paul.
Lee earned the call-up after being red hot with the St. Paul Saints. He’s slashing .329/.394/.635 in 20 games this season for AAA-St. Paul.
