According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the area of 23rd Street and Aldrich Avenue North just before 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 on a report of gunshots.
The complaint states officers pulled over a Chevrolet Impala after learning a victim suffering from a gunshot wound was in the vehicle. Officers then provided first aid to the victim but he died at the scene. The man was identified as 25-year-old Mustafa Ali, a "high-ranking member" of a local gang, according to authorities.
The complaint said officers noticed a vehicle that appeared to be following the Impala later arrived at Hennepin County Medical Center, and the two men in the vehicle were identified by police as members of a gang that had a rivalry with the victim. Not long after the men arrived at the hospital, a vehicle carrying Mahad Ali arrived. The complaint said he was suffering from a gunshot wound and needed emergency surgery.
Interviews and surveillance video showed police that Mahad Ali was in the back seat of a vehicle when Mustafa Ali walked up to the door and the two began to shoot at each other.
