Memorial Day Events in the Twin Cities

Hundreds of people are expected to gather during the annual service to honor the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day honors the service and sacrifice of military members who have died while serving the United States, and Fort Snelling National Cemetery has a program planned for Monday morning.

Hundreds of people are expected to gather during the annual service to honor the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year, attendees can expect a fly over, a band as well as remarks from Gov. Tim Walz and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota).

Volunteers place hundreds of thousands of flags next to each tombstone through a nonprofit called Flag for Fort Snelling. They started honoring the more than 180,000 soldiers resting at Fort Snelling.

Monday’s program begins at 9:45, with the flyover scheduled for 10 a.m.

Also happening Monday is Fleet Farm’s ‘Taps Across America’ program, which honors fallen soldiers.

The company says all 49 stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota are participating in the event, which includes a moment of silence outside store locations at 3 p.m. and the playing of ‘Taps’. CLICK HERE to learn more about the program.
