Crookston police: Man shot, killed after advancing at officers with hatchet
The Minnesota BCA is investigating a shooting involving officers with the Crookston Police Department that left a man dead early Thursday morning.
Agency officials announced the investigation on social media just after 6 a.m.
Crookston police say officers found a man in the street who was swinging a hatchet in the area of East 7th Street around 12:53 a.m. That’s when police say the man “rapidly approached” officers, and less lethal means were used.
However, police go on to say the man continued to advance with the hatchet at officers, who then shot him.
Although officers gave him care, he later died at a hospital.
ABC affiliate WDAY reports a large area near the Polk County Government Center, located on North Broadway, was taped off during the overnight hours.
No other details have been released, other than the public isn’t in danger.
