Group stages 'honk-in' for prison reform outside state senator's Maple Grove home

Dozens of cars crowded a typically quiet suburban street Saturday to demand criminal justice reform.

A group of protesters gathered in their cars outside the home of state Sen. Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, who oversees the Senate Judiciary Committee.

A Facebook event for the protest claims Limmer has refused to take up any bills to increase funding to the Department of Corrections to allow some prisoners to come home during the coronavirus pandemic. They say prisons need to be at 60% capacity "to allow for meaningful social distancing."

According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, 66 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, and only one is hospitalized.
