2 dead in Minnetrista crash, State Patrol releases identification

UPDATE 1/20 at 8 a.m.: A report from the Minnesota State Patrol on Saturday morning confirmed that 40-year-old Darren Tombers, of Watertown, and 30-year-old Shawna Jacobson, of Brooten, were killed in the crash.
State Patrol confirmed two people were killed in a crash on Friday on the western edge of the Twin Cities metro.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol’s incident report, the crash happened on Highway 7 and Wildwood Avenue just after noon. A 511 map shows the crash happened at the border of Minnetrista and St. Bonifacius.
A Subaru Outback was headed east on Highway 7 toward Wildwood Avenue when it crossed over the center line and hit a westbound Mack semi-truck head-on, the crash report states. The collision resulted in both vehicles ending up in the south ditch.
Highway 7 was closed in both directions for several hours Friday afternoon but has since reopened. Westbound traffic was sent onto Main Street into St. Bonifacius while eastbound traffic was detoured onto Wildwood Avenue.
The driver of the semi wasn’t hurt. The State Patrol hasn’t yet released the names of the two people in the Subaru.
