Minneapolis police say they have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed 43-year-old Kesha Latrice Moore on Sunday.

Officers arrested 50-year-old Johnny Brown following a traffic stop in Golden Valley on Monday night. He was booked into Hennepin County Jail for probable cause murder but has not been formally charged.

Officials say that officers tracked Brown to Maple Grove and initiated a felony traffic stop around 8:50 p.m. near the intersection of Douglas Drive North and St. Croix Avenue North in Golden Valley.

On Sunday night, police say they responded to reports of a shooting in the 4200 block of Sheridan Avenue South around 8:20 p.m.

They then found Moore with a fatal gunshot wound inside an apartment. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Tuesday afternoon that she had been shot in the head.

Moore died despite responding officers giving her CPR, according to officials.

Moore’s family, a dozen strong, held each other outside of the Hennepin County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon where Brown was in court for an unrelated hearing. 

“He had been on the run, so we needed to see him today, which is why we decided to come even though it wasn’t in regards to the actual charge that we’re looking forward to him facing,” said Moore’s older sister, Kena Johnson.

“She can’t be brought back, so we want him to know that,” Moore’s younger brother K.D. Terrell added.

Brown has not been charged in this case. 

Minneapolis police on Sunday said Moore’s death is believed to be a “domestic-related incident” between her and her live-in partner. In an update to the homicide investigation on Monday night, police arrested Brown.

“So we all have a lot of anger,” Johnson said. “We have a very close family and Kesha is our business partner, our sister, our friend, our guidance counselor, like everything.”

Moore was their role model, several family members expressed. They said she leaves behind a family home health care business that she ran, and more importantly, two kids and a grandson.

“Too young to not have their mother,” Johnson said, adding Moore’s children were 23 and 25 years old.

“And I just want to say that I love Kesha forever,” her cousin, Jessica Armstrong added.

“So I really hope that the justice system does not fail number 34, the 34th domestic violence death this year,” Johnson concluded. “I really hope they don’t continue to fail women and the men who have been victims of domestic violence.”
