1 found dead following St. Paul garage fire
An investigation is underway after police say a male’s body was found in a garage that caught fire early Thursday morning in St. Paul.
Crews were called to 762 Jenks Avenue for a report of a garage fire shortly after 4 a.m. Inside, firefighters say they found a body.
As of this time, St. Paul police say there aren’t any obvious signs of criminal activity, but the investigation is still in its early stages.
St. Paul police say the name of the victim, as well as his cause of death, will be released by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner. The St. Paul Fire Department says an autopsy is expected to be done on Thursday.
If the male’s death is ruled to be fire-related, it would be the second of the year within the city.
According to fire officials, the property’s owner told them the home was vacant, and the garage had recently been broken into multiple times.
Thursday’s fire caused the garage to collapse, and surrounding structures were damaged due to heat and fire exposure.
No one else was reported to be injured during the fire.
