Victim identified in fatal early-morning Minneapolis shooting on Saturday

UPDATE 10/24: Officials with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 49-year-old Omar Lamont Brown.

Brown died as a result of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, officials say. His manner of death is considered a homicide.


A man is dead after a shooting in Minneapolis on Saturday morning.

Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) were called to the 3500 block of Penn Avenue North around 5:30 a.m. on a report of a ShotSpotter notification, according to a news release from MPD.

At the scene, officers found an unconscious man in his 50s with an apparent gunshot wound. The man was brought to North Memorial Medical Hospital, where he later died, the release stated.

There have been no arrests. MPD is investigating.
