Maplewood fire displaces 11, leaves 2 in need of treatment for heat exhaustion
A fire at a Maplewood townhome on Tuesday left two people — including a firefighter — in need of treatment for heat exhaustion and displaced nearly a dozen people.
The fire started at around 7:30 p.m. near Dorland Road and Londin Lane East, just east of Battle Creek Regional Park in St. Paul.
Maplewood Fire says the report started as a car fire but flames extended to the home.
Crews from five surrounding communities responded to help but the exterior of the home suffered extensive damage, firefighters say. All units were able to clear the scene by midnight.
Authorities say the Red Cross is helping the 11 people displaced by the fire.
