Matson 'making some huge strides' as therapy continues

The Waseca police officer who was injured in a shooting in January has been "making some huge strides" in his therapy, according to a recent update on his CaringBridge page.

An update posted Sunday says Arik Matson has developed good strength in his left arm and is starting to move it more, and he's also walking further with a crutch. The post adds that his hand-eye coordination is looking much better and his speech continues to improve.

"To see so many improvements in just this short of a time period is nothing short of a miracle and we hope to continue to see more progress as we go along!" the update says in part.

The post also notes that Matson's brain is working overtime to relearn many things, and normal tasks for most people take much more concentration and brain power for him.

Because of that, Matson's therapy team is not allowing visitors until further notice so he can put his full energy toward therapy.

"Arik loves literally everyone and can't help but put his focus into visitors instead of resting and healing so in his best interest, we are not allowing visitors at this time. Thank you for understanding!" the post said.
