1 man shot, another arrested after car crash, shooting in St. Paul

St. Paul police made one arrest on aggravated assault charges following a shooting in the city’s South of Maryland neighborhood.

Officers say they responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Atwater Street just before 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.

An off-duty officer then reported that a man in his 20s arrived at Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound related to the Atwater Street shooting.

Police say they then found “a second victim,” another man in his 20s, who was armed with a handgun at Atwater Street. He also sustained injuries from the shooting.

Investigators believe the second victim’s vehicle was struck by the first victim’s vehicle. The first victim and an “unknown second male” then approached the second victim’s vehicle, and shots were fired, according to St. Paul police.

Police are still working to determine if the first victim was armed when he approached the vehicle.

A woman then picked up the first victim and took him to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the second victim was treated at Regions Hospital for injuries from the shooting, discharged and then arrested for aggravated assault.
